Hamza Following In The Footsteps Of Giants.

14/05/2006

At the tender age of nine years old Hamza Agha displayed all the promise that prompted Leeds RLFC to sign his uncles Khurshid and Ikram Butt as professional rugby players.  Ikram progressed further by creating a little history by becoming the first Asian to represent England during the 1995 European Championships.

Hamza is already demonstrating the potential to follow in his uncles footsteps.  Hamza was representing his local team Milford Marines in a curtain raiser against Hunslet Parkside at the famous Headingley Carnegie stadium.

The crowd of 15,000 spectators had already been treated to an entertaining and thrilling first half game of rugby between the home team Leeds Rhinos versus Hull Sharks.  During half time the crowd were once again on the edge of their seats while the stars of the future displayed all the talent and skills demonstrated by their seniors.

Milford eventually defeating Hunslet winning the game by two tries to one.

Hamza and his fellow players on both teams followed in the footsteps of legends that have graced the world renowned stadium.

Hamza Agha

‘To play on the same ground where my uncles have played was brilliant’.   My dream is to be a rugby star and play for the Leeds Rhinos’.

Ikram Butt, BARA Director

I am delighted for Hamza and his fellow team mates to have had the opportunity at such an early age to play on such a famous ground.  It wasn’t till I was seventeen when I had that privilege.  I am sure they will all remember this occasion for many years to come’.
