All India & South Asia Championship Trophy (original replica of the Calcutta Cup) At The Pocklington 7s
17/04/2006
The British Asians Rugby Association proudly brought along their India & South Asia championship trophy that they recently won in Mumbai, India to add to the cosmopolitan flavour of the event. The trophy was paraded alongside the Pocklington 7s trophy. The significance of both trophies is that each is quite unique as the All India & South Asia Championship trophy is the original replica of the Calcutta Cup which is the oldest 15 aside trophy in the world and the Pocklington 7s trophy as being the oldest 7s trophy in Yorkshire.

The 2006 Guinness Pock 7s produced another record breaking day when over 3,000 rugby enthusiasts basked in the Percy Road sunshine to watch seven hours of top notch rugby. Yorkshire rugby's oldest seven-a-side tournament the got underway with a full entry of 24 teams,.
The event has been staged at Pocklington every Good Friday since 1959, and drew a crowd of 3,000 rugby enthusiasts in 2005. It is well established as one of East Yorkshire's biggest sporting and social rugby days out, with many exiles from the area making their way back home for an annual Easter reunion, some flying back from abroad just for the day. The day has a new sponsor for 2006, brewers Guinness, who helped arrange the draw at half-time during a recent Guinness Premiership game at Leeds.
