British Pakistani Rugby Players, Play Their Part In Pakistan’s Historic Test victory

15/06/2006

The above picture displays Rugby star Ikram Butt together with fellow West Yorkshire-based players Rashid Mahmood (Earlsheaton RL), Amraz Hamid (Hunslet Warriors RL), Junaid Malik (Elland RL) and Rehan Mansoor (Old Crossleyans RU) & London-based Shahid Rafiq (Battersea Ironsides RU), after helping Pakistan record their second successful Test victory this time against the Philippines RFU.

It was the first time that Pakistan had been entered into the internationally recognised Tri Nation Test tournament.  Along the way the Pakistan Test team created a little bit of history by winning its first ever game against a strong Guam team.  To prove that it was no fluke and only with three days to recover Pakistan went on to also defeat a very well organised Philippines team.

Ikram Butt, BARA Director, “We are delighted to play our part in Pakistan’s first ever Test victory.  The whole event was an emotional & satisfying experience.  It is always an honour & privilege to represent Pakistan.  All the BARA players were outstanding and significantly contributed to helping Pakistan become victorious”.

Rizwan Malik, Pakistan’s Head Coach, “The injection of the BARA players into the Pakistani team proved to be the key element to our victories.  Their level of skill & experience brought the best out of my players.  I look forward to linking up with the BARA players in preparation for the South Asian Games this November in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
