| Rugby
is currently being played in more than 100
countries. It is played by men and women
and by boys and girls world-wide. More than
three million people aged from 6-60 regularly
participate in the playing of the game.
The wide variation of skills and physical
requirements needed for the game mean that
there is an opportunity for individuals
of every shape, size and ability to participate
at all levels.
On the playing rugby front BARA's main
aims are:
- To provide positive role models for
children and young people to aspire to,
by promoting through different media channels
players that are excelling at the game
of rugby.
- To bring people together, young and
old together from different communities
who are currently playing rugby in the
UK and ireland through the formation of
showcase rugby teams e.g.BARA
Rugby Team and The
Manningham Bulls.
- To attract more South Asians to the
game of rugby by having high profile games
and includes playing matches against touring
South Asian rugby unions and rugby teams.
- Support and assist to promote rugby
in South Asian countries by hosting and
organising matches for teams and unions
from South Asian countries in the UK &
Ireland and abroad.
BARA envisages that there are around 100
players of the South Asian origin playing
rugby union or rugby league in the UK &
Ireland.
