| BARA Knocked out the favorites ‘Chennai Cheetahs’ in a strongly contested match, which was marred by some awful refereeing decisions. For some people this should have been the final, for BARA it was a game were they had to take their game to the next level with Chennai being, last years winners, tournament favorites and also their toughest opponents in the tournament. The game was fast and furious with both teams knowing that who ever won this game would probably win the final. The referee didn’t make it easier for the players by making some decisions, which even had the Tournament Committee scratching their heads. At half time the game was tied 10-10 with BARA slightly edging in possession and territory. The second half started at a fast pace with both teams going for it, however brute strength and mental toughness played its part in the end. BARA forwards started winning scrums against the head and fifty balls, which enabled them to give good ball to the backs, who were starting to attack the Chennai back line with purpose and aggression. At one stage both teams were reduced to 14 men, as the referee penalised both teams for persistent infringements and foul play. In the end BARA were too strong for Chennai and they sailed into a 27-19 lead with 10 minutes to go and ran out the reminder of time by slowing the game down to a pace where they dictated the play. BARA’s points were scored by: Amraz Hamid (2 tries), Rashid Mehmood (1 try), Junaid Malik (1 try), Jag Johal (1 try) and Ben Kerr (2 conversions). BARA will be playing Bangalore in the final on Saturday 1st October.
