| The South
Asia Bulls was launched in May 2002, a unique
and pioneering team comprising of players
from both codes of rugby. It was backed
by Sporting Equals, B.E.M. Sports Forum
(black & ethnic sports forum), Bradford
Council, City of York and the Rugby Football
League.
The South Asia Bulls was the brain child
of Ikram Butt, former England international,
who is currently employed as a Development
Officer by Bradford Council’s Sport
& Leisure Service and is Chief Executive
of BARA.
The main aim of the South Asia Bulls was
to build bridges across the different communities
through the medium of rugby and bring players
together as part of a long running campaign
to combat racism and provide role models
for the aspiring children.
The Bulls first outing was during the international
nine-a-side York Golden Jubilee Festival,
2002.
During the formation of the British Asian
Rugby Association in 2004, the South Asia
Bulls Team was renamed the British
Asian Rugby Association Team. However
some games are still played under the South
Asia Bulls name.
