British Asian Rugby Association (BARA) chief and dual code international Ikram Butt played his part in helping the Great Britain All Stars team preserve their unbeaten record in a charity match against Leigh at Hilton Park recently.
The GB All Stars were set up in 2008 by rugby league legend Garry Schofield O.B.E. with the idea of bringing ex players back together to tour the UK playing exhibition matches and have set up their own charity to raise funds for under privileged children.
The All Stars team consisted of a host of former household names including Schofield, Graham Steadman, Tommy Martin & Jason Critchley.
Colin Morris was the referee for the touch and pass encounter that saw the veterans display all of their silky skills in front of a healthy crowd.
Ikram stated “ When Schoey asked me to play, I jumped at the opportunity to once again rub shoulders with some of the best players our country has produced and catch up with old friends.
“Legends of rugby returning to play exhibition games in order to raise funds for charities is such a worthy cause,” added Ikram.
Garry Schofield commented: “It was another memorable day for the All Stars and added to the fundraising efforts for our charity.
“Ikram looked like a good prospect and we may well give him the call again!” quipped the former GB skipper.
GB All Stars next game is a curtain raiser at The Jungle on Saturday 7th September prior to the Castleford v Bradford Bulls Super League clash.
